The Bow-in-the-Cloud Vineyard (Special Opening for Tetbury Foord & Drink Festival)
Bow-in-the-Cloud Vineyard is situated approximately 1 mile to the east of Malmesbury on a small pocket of Cotswold cornbrash soil in an area which is generally characterised by unsuitable clay. This well drained soil, protected by woodland, provides a good location for cultivating varieties of vine that are chosen for their ability to reliably ripen grapes in a cool climate. When the vineyard was planted in 1993-4 three varieties were chosen such that they would be expected to blend well to produce a well balanced wine when mature, and such has proved to be the case. The vineyard now produces excellent traditional and pink brut bubblies and an exceptional off-dry Bacchus still wine using artisanal methodology with the help of the Halfpenny Green Vineyard near Kidderminster. These wines are available through prestigious local outlets including The Priory Inn, Whatley Manor, The Old Bell, and, mainly for weddings etc. through William's Kitchen caterers. Off-licence sales are through Thomas the Butcher and farmers' markets.
The vineyard is not open to the public but visitors are welcome by arrangement especially during the Tetbury Food and Drink Festival, when guided tours and tutored tastings have been arranged. Visitors should be aware that this is weather dependent as there is no shelter and that wines may be purchased with cash or cheque only. |
